Hillview Juvenile Carnival Club

Official Club Website

24/01/10 - AGM

Burnham-On-Sea's only carnival club, Hillview JCC, is seeking volunteers with electrical and mechanical experience to help out with this year's float.

Hillview Juvenile Carnival Club won its class during the 2009 carnival circuit with its colourful 'Gee Wiz' entry and now it needs extra helpers as work begins on its new float for 2010.

Mark Bishop, Chairman of Hillview, said: "We'd like to hear from anyone who can spare some time to work on electrical and mechanical tasks. We're a very friendly group and a warm welcome is assured."

Those who are interested should attend this Sunday's AGM of the club at the Bristol Bridge Inn in Highbridge at 7pm.

08/11/09 - 4 awards in 2 nights!

Hillview Carnival Club was celebrating again on Saturday night (November 7th), after winning first place in their class, taking two wins on the trot after winning at Bridgwater the night before..

'Gee Wiz', was awarded the top place in the Juvenile class on the second night of the carnival season, and also scooped the spectator's choice for Juvenile entries in the whole procession. On top of the two first places, the club also took joint 3rd with Harlequins in the Best Dressed Tractor Driver Category.

The club's electrician, John Carpenter, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "It was an awesome night for Hillview, with us winning first place in our class plus two other awards for 'crowd's choice' and 'third best tractor driver'."

"It was a great night for the club's children on the cart - well done to all of them. We're now looking forward to bringing the cart home to Burnham on Monday to show the local people who have supported us throughout the year.

25/09/09 - Hillview Cart-athon!

Hillview JCC will be hosting their first ever official 'Cart-athon' next Saturday, on the 3rd of October. The event will run from 10am in the morning until 10pm at night with various activities and events held throughout the day with skittles tournamounts, stalls plus alot more alongside refreshments from the Bristol Bridge Pub.

Also, the continuous work taking place on the club's 2009 entry throughout the day and night by the clubs members will also be taking place. Alongside that, the name of the 2009 cart is also expected to be named and revealed on the day.

Hillview are hoping to gain various different sponsors for the event, where people can sponsor the club at £20 an hour. Sponsorship can be sorted by sending Aron Whiting an email on naj_somerset_rebels@msn.com where payment methods will be sorted. Any help is very much appreciated.

05/09/09 - Jester Henge

The Jesters models from last years entry 'Jester Parade' have finally been re-homed and put to a greater use rather than lying around inside our shed. They've become the new 'stars' of the show at Vobster in Radstock where they have been sunk underwater as a new attraction to divers at the centre.

We thank Vobster very much, and it's good to see the Jesters put to good use! Pictures can be found in the Hillview Album on the following link:

More than £500 was raised for Burnham-On-Sea's Hillview Carnival Club when a town centre pub held a popular outdoor street party on Sunday evening (August 30th).

Organiser Mark Bishop from Hillview Carnival Club told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "We raised over £500 on the night and the big crowd enjoyed first class entertainment thanks to John and Pat, the landlords."

05/08/09 - Work continues!

Work is now well underway on our 2009 entry with a huge amount of progression being made over the last fortnight leaving us well ahead of target in our bid to be fully completed for Bridgwater Carnival at the start of November. However with the amount of work being put in and the cart taking shape more and more, it is leaving us with less space each week. The Jester models seen on last years entry are still for sale and we would be willing to accept ANY good offers to take them off our hands.

A picture of the models can be found to the right. The models are still coated in the original paint as shown and are back to back models leaving it 'double faced'. Although not shown in the picture, the models have attached hands with juggling balls or skittles. If interested, make contact through the website or use the contact page for more details.

Whilst the cart is taking shape, fund raising is also continuing after Glastonbury Festival a number of weeks back. The club will be seen up Glastonbury again this coming weekend at the Glastonbury Extravaganza with 'Folk fest' and a Street Party to follow in a few weeks time.

In other news, Hillview JCC's design meeting has been and passed for another year, where club members voted on the submitted designs by club members. The members present narrowed it down to the 3 most popular before 1 was picked out and decided the club would build that cart for 2009. The chosen theme will be revealed later on in the year. Work will hopefully commence soon.

19/01/09 - And so it begins...

Work is now well underway for Hillview Juvenile Carnival Club, as preparation for the 2009 Carnival season begins. Plenty of new members were present at the annual AGM along with many existing members from the previous year, with all being made welcome once again.
Work has been ongoing to take apart last years entry since the end of the 2008 season, with the plan being for the cart to be completely stripped back to the bare chassis, so there is obviously still a lot of work to be done before the 2009 cart can start to be constructed. However, the design night is in less than 2 weeks where the club will vote and pick their favourite idea submitted by one of the club members - the chosen idea will then be taken forwards into production for 2009.

Roles within the club for 2009 are as follows:
Chairman: Tina Marshall.
Vice Chairman: Damian Nicholson.
President: Margeret and Jacqui Wall.
Secretary: Tina Marshall.
Treasurer: Lyn Burland.
Cart Captain: Mark Bishop.
Vice Cart Captain: Adrian Butt.
Road Crew Captain: Adrian Butt.
Vice Road Crew Captain: John Carpenter.
Webmaster: Aron Whiting.
Childrens co-ordinator: Jenny Nicholson.
Choreographer: Charlotte Bishop.

Hillview would once again like to welcome it's new full members, vice presidents and juvenile members, and pass on their thanks to the people who supported the club over 2008, and into 2009.

On another note, anybody interested in purchasing the Jester models from down the side of the 2008 cart should contact Aron Whiting via email (naj_somerset_rebels@msn.com). These need to be cleared as soon as possible due to the limited space we have. Pictures can be viewed by visiting the '2008 Page' and by then visiting the photo gallery.

2008 Season is over!

Another year has passed, and another Carnival season is over. Hillview ended the year with a 2nd place at Weston Carnival, resulting in the club finishing 3rd in the Juvenile category with Toppers JCC placed 2nd and Marina Sydenham JCC winning the County Cup for the second time in three years.

Hillview's cart captain Mark Bishop commented saying "After the marvelous carnival season we have just had, may I take this oppertunity to thank all the children and adult members of the club, who made this years carnival so fantastic. Congratulations must go to Marina Sydenham and Toppers for winning County Cups this year with their fantastic entries. May I also thank our sponsors and supporters - we couldn't have done it without you. To Margeret and Jacqui Wall of the Bristol Bridge Inn for all your patience, kindness and wonderful food! To Jason White and Stuart Carpenter who seem to give up their time every year to get us out of trouble at the drop of a hat, and also to Martin Wall who tows our generator trailor from town to town. I could on naming people all night who do marvelous work for the club, but those people know who they are. Last but not least I just feel I should mention our two newest adults members, Aron Whiting and Matt Lewis who between them have done everything asked of them, as well as set up the official club website. I hope they have enjoyed their first year and look forward to working with them for many more years to come!"

Work has now began to strip the cart back in preparation for the 2009 season. If anybody is interested in any of the models shown on this years entry then contact Aron Whiting on naj_somerset_rebels@msn.com. Thanks once again to everyone who has supported Hillview JCC throughout 2008.

First glimpse of 2008 entry!

"The excitement is really starting to grow now," said Cart Captain Mark Bishop. "The float is taking shape every day and we have high hopes of repeating our success of last year."

The clubs first public unveiling will be at Bridgwater Carnival on November 7th, which will mark the culmination of the hard work of all the hard work by the club's sixteen builders and various fundraisers.
